The Study Advice section of the Checkmate Training
web site offers OSPRE Part I candidates professional guidance and information
on study, revision, the examination process and the examination itself.
This training support is provided by acknowledged experts in the OSPRE
Part I field. The page will be updated to include further articles of
interest to the Part I candidate when appropriate. At present there
are 3 articles which are available (click the links below).
Article
One: Reading Speed
Abstract: This
article gives advice on reading speed and on how Sergeants' candidates
might approach the manuals from a time perspective. It informs candidates
how long the manuals take to read (based on average reading speed).
This is illustrated in two tables which show reading time under a manual
and chapter heading (table 1) and by reading time in ascending order
(table 2).
Article
Two: Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) Style
Abstract: This
article includes an excerpt from an Oxford University Press publication
and illustrates the standard MCQ style that will be used in your examination
(and on our 3-day course). It also shows some styles that are no longer
used in Part I examinations but are still being proffered by some as
acceptable methods of testing knowledge.
Article
Three: Revision Methodology
Abstract: This
article includes an excerpt from an Oxford University Press publication
and describes a variety of revision methods used by successful examination
candidates as well as offering advice on revision technique to be avoided.
